Before Anesthesia

Before Anesthesia at Oral Surgery +

Prior to receiving anesthesia for your oral surgery, it is crucial to adhere to specific guidelines to guarantee your safety and the effectiveness of your treatment. Please carefully review the following directions and feel free to contact our office if you have any inquiries or worries.

Abstaining from Food and Drink: It is essential to refrain from consuming any food or beverages, including water, for a minimum of 8 hours before your scheduled surgery. This period of fasting helps to prevent issues such as inhalation during anesthesia delivery.

Medications: Inform your oral surgeon about all medications you are currently taking, including prescribed drugs, over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and supplements. Your surgeon will advise you on which medications to take on the day of surgery and which to temporarily stop taking.

Attire: Wear loose, comfortable clothing to your appointment, with sleeves that can be easily rolled up if intravenous (IV) relaxation will be administered. Avoid wearing contact lenses, jewelry, and accessories that may interfere with the surgical procedure.

Transport: Arrange for a responsible adult to accompany you to and from your appointment, as you will not be able to drive or operate machinery after receiving anesthesia. Your companion should remain at the office during your procedure and be available to assist you afterward.

Health Status: If you develop a cold, fever, or any other illness leading up to your surgery, please notify our office as soon as possible. Your surgery may need to be rescheduled to ensure your safety and the effectiveness of the procedure.

Adhere to Directions: Follow any additional pre-surgery directions provided by your oral surgeon, such as specific oral hygiene measures or pre-surgery medications. These directions are designed to optimize your surgical outcome and minimize the risk of issues.

By adhering to these pre-anesthesia surgical directions, you can help ensure a smooth and effective surgical experience. If you have any inquiries or worries about your upcoming procedure or anesthesia delivery, please feel free to contact our office. We are here to support you and provide you with the highest quality care.
